Step-by-Step Guide to Set Up User Role Or SureMembers Access Group Discount in SureCart

1. Install and Activate Discounts For SureCart

If you haven’t already, download and activate the Discounts For SureCart plugin to access the discount features.

2. Assign Users to User Roles or Access Groups

Before you proceed with setting up discounts, it’s crucial to ensure that users on your site are assigned to the appropriate user roles or SureMembers access groups. This is the foundation of this tutorial, as the discount feature depends on these assignments.

If you haven’t already set up the necessary user roles or configured the Access groups, take a moment to do so now. To use SureMembers access groups, you’ll need the SureMembers plugin installed and activated. Then, you can start organizing your users into access groups.

Once you’ve set up your roles or groups, assign users to the relevant categories. For testing purposes, you might also consider adding a few test users to these roles or groups. This step ensures that your discounts will apply correctly and allows you to verify your settings during the setup process.

3. Create A New Discount

In the SureCart dashboard, navigate to the SurelyWP>Discounts and click the “Discounts” tab. There you can see any existing discounts or click the “Add New Discount” button.

4. Name and Enable The Discount

Give your discount a name—something that clearly represents the promotion, like “Member Discount” This will make it easy to recognize and manage later.

5. Select Products For Discount

Next, decide which products should be eligible for the discount. You can choose specific individual products, apply the discount to products within a particular collection, or set the discount to apply to all products across your store. In our example, we will choose the “All Products” option to set a sitewide discount.

 6. Set Discount Method To “Coupon Code”

The plugin offers two discount methods: Automatic Discount (applies the discount automatically to simple products with one-time prices) or Coupon Code (requires a coupon code and works for any price options). However, the automatic option has some limitations, so in this scenario, we need to use the Coupon Code discount method so that the discount can be properly applied automatically at checkout.

7. Create the Coupon Code in SureCart

Navigate to SureCart>Coupons, create your new coupon, and copy the “Promotion Code.” Paste this code into the “Coupon Code” field in the Discounts For SureCart plugin’s discount settings. 

8. Enable Setting To Automatically Apply Discount

Next, be sure to enable the setting to automatically apply the coupon code during checkout. This is important because we want our logged in members to always receive this discount, so applying it automatically is the best way to ensure this.

8. Restrict Coupon Code Based On User Roles Or SureMembers Access Groups

Finally, we come to the main feature of this tutorial. The plugin has a setting to restrict the use of this coupon code to logged-in users who either have a specific user role or are members of an active SureMembers Access Group. When this is enabled, a new field will appear to choose whether to restrict the use of this coupon code by user role or by SureMembers Access Group. 

Note that the SureMembers Access Group option will only be available if SureMembers is installed and active, otherwise you won’t get this option and can go directly to selecting user roles.

When a logged-in member or matching user goes to checkout, the coupon code will be automatically applied, and they will receive the member discount.
