Adding And Managing Discounts
The Discounts feature in the Marketing for SureCart addon allows you to create powerful, flexible discounts with unique settings, modes, display options, targeting rules, and product associations. You can create as many discounts as you need, each with its own configuration, including user role restrictions, access group conditions, countdown timers, scheduled or evergreen timing, coupon behaviors, and more.
To get started, go to the Discounts tab in the plugin interface. Here you can create a new discount or manage any existing ones you’ve already set up. All discounts are listed in a clean overview table where you can edit, disable, duplicate, or remove them as needed.
Write A Descriptive Title And Set The Status
When you open an individual discount, whether creating a new one or editing an existing one, you’ll see tabs that let you configure every detail. The first step is to enter a clear internal title for your own internal reference and choose whether the discount is currently enabled or disabled. This determines whether the discount is live or inactive while you work on it.
Associate The Discount With All Or Selected Products
Discounts can be global (sitewide) or tied to specific products or product collections. You have two ways to assign a discount to products, depending on your workflow and how many products you’re targeting.
Option 1: Select Products For Discounts In The SurelyWP Addon Settings
The simplest method for assigning a discount to many products at once is through the SurelyWP addon settings. Here you can choose:
- All products
- Specific individual products
- Product collections
This is ideal when you want broad control and a single place to manage product assignments for your discounts.
Option 2: Enable And Assign The Discount From The SureCart Product Page
If you prefer to assign a discount directly while editing a product, especially when working with just one or a few products, you can do that from the SureCart product page. Our plugin adds an integrated setting where you can toggle the discount on for that product and select the discount from a dropdown. This is perfect for quickly attaching an existing discount while managing product details. Once you enable the discount setting, a dropdown will appear to select the associated discount, which you can manage in the SurelyWP addon settings.
Important Note About SureCart Limitations
Due to current SureCart API limitations, only Coupon Method discounts can be assigned to products that have multiple prices, variants, or subscription billing plans. However, our plugin includes an “automatic coupon” capability that bypasses this limitation. This feature automatically applies the coupon at checkout, allowing you to use automatic discounts across all product types safely and reliably. You can learn more about automatic coupon behavior in the sections below.
Choosing Your Discount Method
Before configuring the details of a discount, the first step is choosing which method it will use. The Discount Method dropdown determines the entire flow of available settings, since Automatic and Coupon Code discounts behave differently and have different capabilities.
The Marketing for SureCart addon supports two discount methods:
- Automatic Discounts — Best for simple one-time prices
- Coupon Code Discounts — Best for all price types and advanced promotion features

Configure Automatic Discounts
Automatic Discounts are designed for simple, one-time payment products. When enabled, the plugin automatically adjusts the product’s price by a percentage or fixed amount reduction. This creates a traditional “sale price” experience by showing the original price crossed out, the discounted price, and a sale badge.
Use Automatic Discounts when you want a straightforward price drop without requiring customers to enter a coupon at checkout.
Percentage Discount
A percentage-based discount automatically reduces the product price by the percentage you specify. The discount scales with the product price, making it useful across products with varying price points while maintaining consistent relative savings.
Fixed Discount
A fixed discount deducts a precise amount from the regular product price. This is ideal when you want customers to see a clear and predictable dollar-value reduction regardless of the original price.
Important Clarification About Automatic Discounts
Due to how SureCart handles pricing, our addon creates a temporary new pricing option in the SureCart product backend when an Automatic Discount is active. This effectively “replaces” the existing price by generating a new discounted price option behind the scenes. You may see what looks like a duplicate price in SureCart, but this is required for the sale price to function properly.
Current SureCart API limitations
Automatic Discounts work only with simple one-time prices. They do not support variants, subscriptions, installment plans, or products with multiple price options. If SureCart expands its API in the future, we plan to support more complex product types with Automatic Discounts.
Recommended alternative for complex product types
For products using variants, subscriptions, installments, or multiple prices, we recommend switching to the Coupon Code discount method and enabling Auto-Apply at Checkout. This approach works seamlessly with all payment types and is the best solution until SureCart enables broader automatic discount support.
Configure Coupon Code Discounts
The second and more useful discount method is the Coupon Code option, which works for every payment type SureCart offers, including one-time purchases, subscriptions, installments, variants, and multi-price products. This method utilizes SureCart’s built-in coupon system, but expands it with our additional features. When you choose the Coupon Code method, you can display a coupon on the product page, make the code clickable for easy copying, show a discount notice, auto-apply the code, or combine these features as needed.
Create Your Coupon in SureCart
To use this method, you will need to first create a new coupon in SureCart and paste the promotion code into our settings:
- Go to SureCart > Coupons
- Create a new coupon code
- Copy the value from the Promotion Code field
- Paste that coupon code into the Coupon Code input field in our discount settings
Once connected, all SureCart coupon rules, like the amount, limit, percentage, fixed discount, subscription discounts, etc. will still apply. Our addon simply enhances how the coupon is presented and applied to customers.
Automatically Apply Coupon Codes In Cart Or Checkout
This incredible feature automatically applies your coupon the moment a shopper adds a product to their cart or lands on the checkout page. No typing. No copy-and-paste. The discount activates on its own; no need to bother the customer or hope they remember to do something.
It’s perfect for all types of discounts, and even better for scheduled sales, flash promotions, or any offer where you want the discount to begin the instant the promotion goes live. And because it uses SureCart’s native coupon system, it works beautifully with subscriptions, installments, and all pricing options.
Whether you’re running a sitewide event or a targeted promo with user-role or SureMembers restrictions, the experience feels effortless for the customer. And if you’re displaying discount notices on product pages, make sure your default message reflects that the coupon will be auto-applied at checkout.
Restrict Coupon Code Based On User Roles Or SureMembers Access Groups
Targeted discounts are a powerful way to reward loyal customers, increase membership value, and create personalized promotions. With our restriction options, you can limit coupon usage to specific user roles or SureMembers Access Groups, giving you full control over who receives access to each discount.
When you enable this option, additional settings appear that allow you to choose how the restriction should work:
- Restrict by User Role — Limit coupon usage to customers with selected WordPress user roles (e.g., Member, Customer, VIP, etc.)
- Restrict by SureMembers Access Group — Limit usage to members of one or more active SureMembers Access Groups (only available if SureMembers is installed and active)
If SureMembers is not active, the access group option is hidden automatically, and you can proceed with user-role restrictions.
This allows you to create highly targeted promotions, such as discounts for logged-in members of VIP group, early access promotions, or wholesale customers, which would make this especially effective when combined with our B2B For SureCart addon.

Note that the SureMembers Access Group option will only be available if SureMembers is installed and active, otherwise you won’t get this option and can go directly to selecting user roles.
Configure The Discount Notice Display And Message
Our plugin offers two discount methods, and the second is the versatile Coupon Code discount method. This option is ideal for any payment type in SureCart—one-time purchases, subscriptions, or installments—since it leverages SureCart’s native coupon functionality. By setting the Discount Method to Coupon Code, you can display a clickable coupon code on the SureCart product page that customers can copy and apply during checkout or which can be applied automatically.
Write A Custom Message To Display On Discounted Products
You can add a custom message to any discounted product to clearly communicate the promotion to your customers. This message can include details about the sale, instructions for using the coupon, or any other information you want shoppers to see directly on the product page. By placing the message prominently, you make it easy for customers to understand the offer and take advantage of it.
Optionally Include Coupon Value And Coupon Code In Discount Notice
You can now include {coupon_code} and {coupon_value} variables in your discount messages. This small addition makes a big difference in personalization! For example:
- “Copy the coupon code ABC123 and apply it at checkout for a $10 discount!”
- “Save 30% on everything!”
Make Coupon Code Clickable
You can make the coupon code clickable, turning it into a copy-to-clipboard button. This allows customers to copy the code instantly and apply it at checkout, reducing friction and making it easier for them to redeem discounts.
Show Discount Notice On Product Page During Discount
By default, the discount notice message will appear on product pages whenever a discount is active and applied to that product. You can choose to disable this setting if you want to run a sitewide sale without displaying the message on individual product pages.
When enabled, you also have full control over where the coupon code and optional custom message appear on the product page. Place the message above the product description, near the pricing area, or anywhere that will catch the customer’s attention.
Display A Sitewide Banner
Easily announce sales across your entire store with a sitewide banner. This feature works with any theme or page builder and instantly displays your promotion at the top of every page.
You can highlight discounts, include coupon values or codes, and customize the banner text to fit your brand. It’s the perfect way to grab attention and drive sales without extra setup.
Use The Shortcode To Display Coupon Discounts In Any Page Builder
This incredible feature enables you to build your own marketing landing pages or product pages and still display coupon discounts! This is an incredible bonus feature if you are not using the default SureCart product pages, but instead using other pages or post types to display your SureCart products
To do this, simply place the shortcode anywhere in your content. This shortcode will show any of the features related to the coupon code, including the custom message, countdown timer, and will show or hide based on the schedule.
This shortcode requires a product ID parameter if used on a page that is not the SureCart product page. To find the product ID, go to SureCart>Products and select the individual product. The product ID will be shown in the URL slug in your browser address bar, something like https://yourdomain.com/surecart/wp-admin/admin.php?page=sc-products&action=edit&id=5420a0f8-06d0-491f-9fcf-987b838c406c. In this case, the product ID can be seen at the end of the URL clearly as 5420a0f8-06d0-491f-9fcf-987b838c406c.
The shortcode in this case requires the “product_id” parameter and looks like.
Use The Coupon Discount Block With The WordPress Block Editor
Highlight discounts easily with our dedicated Coupon Discount block for the WordPress block editor. While our shortcode already supports any page builder, this block is specifically crafted for the block editor, giving SureCart users enhanced customization and control. Use it to display the custom discount message, a clickable coupon code, and countdown timers. The block will also automatically adjust visibility based on the discount schedule.
To use it, simply add the Coupon Discount block to any page and include both the Product ID and our Discount ID.
- Product ID: Locate this by navigating to SureCart > Products and checking the URL of the specific product in your browser’s address bar.
- Discount ID: This new identifier can be found listed on each discount in the Discounts tab within SurelyWP’s addon settings.
With this new feature, you can now display discount notices using any page builder—including Gutenberg—allowing you to showcase discounts independently of default SureCart product pages.
Choose The Discount Schedule Mode
With our plugin, you can easily control when and how the discount is active. You can keep it always on, schedule it between specific dates, or use evergreen mode for personalized time-limited offers per visitor.
Activate Discounts Right Away
If you are starting a sale now and want to make the discount live right away, go for it! You can do that with the Always Active setting. This means, as long as you have the status of the discount configuration set to enabled, the discount will always be active. Use this when you want to manually control the sale period. You can optionally set the discount to scheduled if you prefer later, or even to evergreen.
Schedule Product Discounts And Sales For Specific Dates And Times
it’s easy to schedule discounts, whether automatic or coupon-based! Simply set a start and end date and time for the discount, and it will automatically activate or display the coupon code and custom message between the selected dates.
Set Your Discount To Evergreen Mode For Limited-Time Countdowns For each Customer
The Evergreen Discount Mode lets you set a countdown timer duration that starts when a visitor first lands on the page, and then expires. All the other coupon discount settings function the same as before with everygreen mode, so everything is familiar to set up.
This feature offers complete customization options to control the countdown duration, hide purchase buttons or redirect after the countdown ends, set custom text for the countdown timer, and even set a custom cookie name and cookie duration for when it should reset for each user in the future.
Display Countdown Timers To Drive Urgency For Sale End
When a discount is set to Scheduled or Evergreen mode, you can display a countdown timer directly on the product page to create urgency and encourage purchases.
- Scheduled discounts: The timer counts down from the selected start date to the end date.
- Evergreen discounts: The timer starts when a visitor first lands on the page and counts down for the duration you specify, resetting per user if needed.
You can fully customize the countdown message to add a personal touch. For example, “Sale ends in [time remaining].” This feature works for both automatic and coupon-based discounts, giving you maximum flexibility to highlight your promotions.
SureCart Brand Color Support
The discount notices will automatically adapt to match your SureCart brand colors, replacing the default blue color to ensure visual consistency across your store.
SureCart Dark Mode Support
If you’re using SureCart’s dark mode, the discount notice will automatically adjust to match (for supported themes), ensuring a seamless user experience.
